Welcome to the Sweet Dietitian Baker!
Do you have a sweet tooth, but you also want to eat healthier? If so, you are in the right place!
Hey there, it's Kati here! Now, if you don't know me, you might read that as Katie... but it's actually pronounced Kah-Tea. I know, you don't really need to know that. But since I get called Katie a lot, I thought I would start out with that.
Now, just by looking at the name Sweet Dietitian Baker, you might be able to guess a few things about me. So let me take a moment to really introduce myself (more than just how to properly pronounce my name).
Sweet
First, I will admit right away, I have the biggest sweet tooth! I always have loved anything sweet. I am guilty of steeling my sisters (and kids if we are being honest) candy without telling them, going to the store just to buy a sweet treat, and am know for saying "chocolate is good for the soul."
Dietitian
But, as you may have also guessed, I am also a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN or sometimes just seen as RD still). I actually went into the field of nutrition because I felt lost and confused as a teen and young adult as to what healthy eating meant. When I found out there was a whole career dedicated to this, I just knew this is what I was meant for. I have spent the past 17 years working in the health and wellness field. A good majority of that was spent working as a clinical dietitian and health coach. About 5 years ago, I had an amazing opportunity to add on to this career by becoming a Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (CDCES - also previously known as Certified Diabetes Educator or CDE). For the past 3 years I have spent most of my time working with those that have type 2 diabetes and/or hypertension population.
Baker
Lastly, there is the "Baker" part of Sweet Dietitian Baker. When I say baker, I am referring to myself as a self taught home cook/baker. I don't have any professional training. I learned how to cook/bake through good old practice (as well as lots of trial and error). Over time, teaching others how to do so became a passion of mine. Especially with my kids! I believe all kids should be in the kitchen learning to cook at a young age.
Ok, ok... I will also admit that I actually used to be a pretty horrible cook/baker. Even when I first became a RDN, I didn't know how to do much (other than the very basics in the kitchen). We got very little culinary practice in school. Sadly, I know first hand just how hard it could be to eat healthy when you aren't confident in the kitchen.
However, I am a true believer that food should never be boring, bland, or blah. I also believe in a non-diet approach to eating, emphasizing the principles of intuitive eating and mindful eating, as well as making sure to enjoy life without stressing or worrying about food all the time. And really, all of this led me to get in the kitchen and learn to do as much as I could.
That is pretty much met in a nutshell..... a Sweet Dietitian Baker.
What to Expect from the Sweet Dietitian Baker
To put it short and sweet, I am a dietitian with a sweet tooth, on a mission to help share ways to make healthier treats to enjoy anytime.
And while most of my posts and information I share will be focused on those healthier sweets (yum, get ready!), in true dietitian fashion, I can't help but also share other healthy tips at times. I will also make sure to share some things I have learned over time to help become a better baker (and cook in general) and just about food/nutrition in general.
I am excited to share with you very soon!
Until then remember this (as it's one of my favorite quotes from Julia Child), "People who love to eat are always the best people."
